Industrial Valves for Thermal Power Plants

Thermal and coal-fired power plants operate under some of the most demanding conditions in industrial processing. High-pressure steam, hot condensate, cooling water, and abrasive ash handling systems all place heavy stress on valves and sealing components. In many older plants, standard valves struggle to maintain stable performance over long operating cycles, especially in high-temperature or erosion-prone areas.

Power plant operators often encounter recurring problems such as seat wear, internal leakage, cavitation damage, or actuator failure around boiler feedwater systems and steam isolation lines. In ash slurry applications, erosion can become particularly severe when conventional valve materials are used. Because of this, many facilities now prefer OEM or ODM valve solutions designed specifically for their operating conditions.

Why Custom Valve Design Matters

OEM valve manufacturing is commonly used when plants need replacement valves built to existing pipeline dimensions and pressure ratings. This approach is practical for maintenance projects where system layouts cannot easily be modified.

ODM projects usually involve a higher level of engineering support. In these cases, valve manufacturers work together with plant engineers to improve flow control performance, reduce maintenance frequency, or solve recurring reliability problems. Depending on the application, upgrades may include improved trim materials, modified sealing structures, anti-cavitation designs, or special coatings for high-temperature service.

For ash handling and slurry transport systems, operators may also request hardened internal components or metal-seated valve designs to improve resistance to abrasion. In steam systems, alloy materials such as WC9 or C12A are often selected for high-temperature durability.
